One of the best pieces in the Health Wonk Review, the latest edition of which can be found at InsureBlog, is Michael Cannon’s deconstruction of Ezra Klein’s recent effusions on the uninsured. Klein’s delusions of grandeur notwithstanding, Cannon shows that he really isn’t very good at this stuff:
Klein argues that if the insurance industry uses that estimate then it must be valid … Evidently, Klein hasn’t been paying attention to the insurance industry’s political agenda, which includes massive subsidies to the insurance industry to provide health insurance to the uninsured.
Or is it just that he is of imperfect honesty? David Hogberg makes a pretty good case for that theory at Health Hog:
Klein refers me to research that does not support his contention that waiting times in the U.S. are “slightly less” that those in Canada … and he leaves out some pretty important data from the Health Affairs study on Canadian wait times and from the Statistics Canada report regarding wait times to see a specialist.
Combined with the holier-than-thou tone that I discuss here, Klein is harder and harder to take seriously.
