Sicko Endorsed by Nurse Ratched

The various “news” media are doing their best to create the impression that America’s nurses have embraced Michael Moore’s latest faux-documentary, with headlines like Nurses Welcome the Arrival of Sicko, and innocuous passages such as the following:

The film, [Rose Ann DeMoro] said, “should bolster the spirits of those dedicated to achieving fundamental reform and embarrass those who promote the lowest common denominator with proposals that reinforce the existing system.”

But Demoro is no more representative of American nurses in general than is Nurse Ratched. In fact, she is the head of a union-funded organization called the National Nurses Organizing Committee whose raison d’être is the promotion of socialized medicine. This agenda is revealed in her Huffington Post comments about the adipose auteur’s film:

Moore’s not even afraid of the inevitable complaints about “socialized” medicine. “Back home in America we’re socializing lots of things,” “Sicko” finds, among them our fire and police service, Social Security checks, and even the library.

I won’t bother to fisk these tired Lefty talking points, but I would like to warn against the dangers of unionized hospitals. Early in my career, I worked for one in a closed shop state, and the union-imposed inertia combined with the inevitable upward pressure on expenses rendered efficient operation virtually impossible. And if you don’t think health care workers will abandon their patients to strike, read this.

So, don’t be fooled by misleading headlines insinuating that “nurses” are on board with Michael Moore and the rest of the limousine liberals who want to foist socialized medicine on the country. DeMoro and her union accomplices have no more interest in what the majority of nurses want than they do in actually reforming health care.

Nurse Ratched, like the Washington apparatchiks who push socialized medicine, is interested in nothing more “progressive” than money and power.
