Romney Bails Out

Like David Hogberg, I was amazed to read Jim Talent’s Orwellian characterization of Romneycare. If this is how Romney plans to put “conservative principles to work” as President, I’m voting for Hillary.

It turns out, however, that Talent’s article was just a preamble to yet another Romney flip-flop. Not satisfied with being on every side of the abortion issue, Romney has now changed his mind on health care. Per the NYT:

Mitt Romney … is unveiling his proposal for overhauling the nation’s health care system … The proposal … departs significantly from the universal health care measure he helped forge as governor of Massachusetts.

This was more or less inevitable, of course. It is obvious to everyone but the willfully blind that his Massachusetts health care initiative is in a tail spin. So, Romney had to hit the eject button sooner or later.

Romney’s new plan is a significant improvement over his Massachusetts boondoggle. However, his decision to become the new John Kerry suggests that, if he encounters any political turbulence, he’ll bail out of this new plan as well.
