RON PAUL: INSURANCE “RIGHTS” OVER AIDS PATIENTS

I’m sure I’ll (once again) incur the wrath of the “paulbearers” for highlighting the following segment from Ron Paul’s writings, but I was simply unable to pass it up. The Houston Chronicle provides a number of “interesting” quotes from the good doctor’s book, Freedom Under Seige, including this:

Paul also singled out people with AIDS, saying they “demand health care and scream AIDS ‘discrimination’ if insurance companies claim they have a right to refuse to issue a policy to someone already infected with the AIDS virus … The rights of the insurance company owners are not considered …”

The “rights” of the insurance companies? It appears that, when it comes to AIDS patients, he is indeed “Dr. No.” Next he’ll be voting against child health care legislation. OOPS, I forgot, he already did.

When you don’t put the entire quote or understand the statement, OF COURSE people are going to correct you.

Ron said the government has no power to pass legislation to force companies to provide services. He is right. If you allow it in one instance, it will be abused for others. Why don’t you donate to charities and research foundations (who are usually more fiscally responsible) instead of deciding what to do with everyone else’s money?

I also forgot to mention that Ron’s not singling out AIDS patients, nor insurance providers… you and the paper are. He would most likely have exactly the same stance for all instances where the government might want to forces companies to behave. Everything is not as black and white as you or the Houston Chronicle would like to think though, and issues like this one cannot be explained or resolved in a 30-second sound-bite answer or quote.
