The Democratic congress, facing the lowest public approval ratings on record, has been trying to create the illusion that it is accomplishing something. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi and her accomplices are just not capable of playing it straight.
Thus, they are going to try once again to override the President’s veto of their fraudulent SCHIP bill. This time they are using “the slowing economy” as their pretext for trying to raise this wreck from the political depths:
Democratic lawmakers on Friday cited the slowing economy as a reason that the House should override President Bush’s veto … The House has scheduled a veto override vote for Wednesday.
To begin with, “the slowing economy” is largely a fiction created by the increasingly irresponsible “news” media. But, even if the economy were in actual trouble, the notion that the SCHIP bill would have any significant effect is patently ridiculous.
Nonetheless, instead of doing their jobs, Congressional Democrats are going to waste everyone’s time on yet another futile exercise in demagoguery. It would be nice if the voters would put some grown-ups in Congress come November.
