I find the anti health care argument hilarious.

It’s like deciding that because the food you have access to isn’t perfect as far as nutrition, it’s a much better idea to go to the corner and eat your own shit.

Canadian health care isn’t perfect, but I would not revert my nation to capitalist health care for 100,000,000,000 dollars Canadian.

A little diatribe first. As a current med student I can tell you that groups like the AMA and AMSA are well on their way to indoctrinating our next generation of physicians. This practice started in elementary school and it never stops. A balanced presentation to the debate is so rare these days.

My first real point is that without TORT reform there will be no effective solution. Leaving that off the table was a sign that this legislation is politically driven instead of ethically driven.

My second point is that if we look at the care our veterans receive from the government (Walter Reed incidents anyone?) as well as their handling of social security (population dynamics shifted–oops!) how can we willingly put our faith/trust in their service?

Why not expand the public health service corps and reestablish indigent hospitals for the ~13% without health insurance. Because it is run by the government the litigation costs will be low and doctors could avoid going into debt for their education in exchange for service.

I’m Canadian, and I agree, I HATE Canadian healthcare. Canadian healthcare SUCKS, badly. After a bad day, fighting for care at the hospital that my doctor had sent in a requisition for and the hospital denied, I’m JUST so fed up. Everything turns into a fight when it comes to healthcare, and I do mean everything. If you have a chronic or life threatening illness in this country, they are eager to let you die, because you cost the system too much money. I live in Canada and I’m fed up with the system here.

I would love to see someone prove that I pay more then any Canadian does in healthcare. I also get more of a choice in who I go to see and when I go for what I need. Not to pay ahead of time on something I will never ever use. Waste of my resources that could go to paying real bills that I DO use on a day to day basis.

In a perfect world we would never be sick or in need of medical assistance. I’m tired of people having something and complaining their butts off about it. Nothing will ever be perfect. Deal with it. Instead of trying to throw a whole different healthcare system at us…try to fix the old one.

The myth that anyone can get health care in the US…….”just show up in the ER”…belies the fact that without insurance (and even sometimes with insurance) you can be driven into bankruptcy if you have major surgery, an accident or develop cancer. The most vulnerable are the middle class unable to afford insurance. Hospitals WILL pursue you to collect until you are forced to sell your house, etc. I would be glad to wait to have my elective surgery, or a couple of hours to be seen if I thought everyone gets basic care. 60% of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills.
The only ones who get “free” care in the US are illegal immigrants and the homeless.

Agree that those in Canada who frequently most deal with the Canadian healthcare system hate it. Our healthcare system is terrible. Of course, healthier Canadians claim to love the system they have no idea how bad it is. When are they hospitalised? When do they see a doctor, if at all?
