Once upon a time, the health care industry harbored considerable animus toward Democrats. This hostility reached its peak during the 1993 fight over Hillarycare. However, as that old tune from yesteryear phrases it, the times they are a changin’. The Health Blog reports the following:
From Jan. 1, 2007 through March of this year, people and political action committees in the health sector have contributed $42 million and to Democratic candidates for congress and the presidency, compared with $34.6 million to Republicans.
And how do the specific presidential candidates fare? Well, here’s a hint:
Both Democratic candidates have called for a big expansion of health insurance coverage that would pour an additional $100 billion a year in federal funds into the health sector — plenty of new money to spend on health-care goods and services.
And McCain?
John McCain’s health-care proposals, by contrast, wouldn’t put significantly more federal money into health.
So, can you guess who’s getting the most health sector cash?
In the presidential race, each of the Democratic candidates has taken in more than $5 million from the sector, compared with less than $2 million for John McCain.
In other words, while Obama and Clinton give lip service to reigning it in, they actually plan to propitiate ”the health care industrial complex” with gigantic bribes. Meanwhile, McCain is proposing reforms that will empower consumers and force insurers and providers to compete for our business.
If you want to know which candidate is for the status quo and which is for actual change, follow the money.

Propitiate? Your vocabulary is going into overdrive, David.
