A personality trait common among progressives is an inability to admit it when they have been wrong. This is what causes them to doggedly defend favorite programs long after they have been shown to be miserable failures. A case in point is the latest NYT editorial about the 2006 Massachusetts universal health care initiative:
Massachusetts’s pioneering plan to provide universal health coverage is off to a good start and is heartening evidence that national health care reform may be possible if sufficient skill and determination are applied to forge a political consensus.
What the hell are these people talking about? The Massachusetts program has failed to accomplish its most basic goal, universal coverage, and its budget is already a runaway train. Moreover, many of the people who have signed up for the mandated insurance plans are unable to find a PCP willing to accept their coverage.
If this is a “good start,” I wonder what the NYT editors would consider a bad one.

Mass. had coverage for all the citizens before Romney showed up and screwed things up.Why didn’t you hear about this is because it worked. If you didn’t get health care from your job the state provided it.It was that simple and it worked.I know,I lived there.
