Single-payer advocates are always telling us that Americans have become so tired of our “dysfunctional health care system” that we yearn for the government to take it over and fix it.
If that conflicts with what your gut tells you about the American psyche, listen to your innards. According to Gallup, half of us think the government already meddles too much. Gallup asked the following question:
Some people think the government is trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and business. Others think that government should do more to solve our country’s problems. Which comes closer to your own view?
And here’s the response:
Americans more likely to believe government is doing too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses (50%) as opposed to saying government should do more to solve the country’s problems (43%).

This result begs the following question: If the general public already thinks the government “helps” too much, is it plausible that a majority of Americans want the feds to take over health care?
I think not.

Talk about a skewed question - this is another silly poll. Of course, when it comes to universal healthcare most Americans are in favour –
‘A vast majority of people in the United States voice support for a universal health care system, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN. 64 per cent of respondents think the government should provide a national health insurance program for all citizens, even if it leads to higher taxes.’

Two summers ago, my brother required surgery to change out his pacemaker. However, he had been let go by his company several weeks before due to “downsizing”. Naturally, he was the only one “downsized” - in reality, he had been costing them an arm and a leg in insurance premiums due to his heart condition.
What would you have done? Ah wait, I forgot….a clear-thinking, “compassionate conservative” like yourself would have let him die, all the while assuring me “if you can’t afford it, you can’t have it. Sorry.”
Even now, with another job and coverage, they still will not cover his surgery (pre-existing condition and all). Every day, I live with the fear that I could lose him in the middle of the night. What’s your solution, Catron?
