Democrats and the “news” media (but I repeat myself) are aggressively promoting the “troopergate” story. In the tawdry tradition of Ronnie Earle, an Alaska Democrat named Hollis French is overseeing an “investigation” into Governor Palin’s firing of Walt Monegan, an official who was apparently using his office to protect a crazy and dangerous state trooper named Michael Wooten.
Trooper Wooten, whose various offenses included Tasering his 10-year-old stepson, was involved in a divorce with Palin’s sister. So, for revenge, Monegan claimed that the Governor fired him because he wouldn’t persecute her brother-in-law. Despite a tape that proves Monegan a liar, the ”investigation” has been fast-tracked to inflict maximum damage on the McCain-Palin campaign.
Needless to say, this is all over the blogosphere. Even formerly honest people like Andrew Sullivan are linking to disgraceful MSM hit pieces. Evidently they haven’t figured out that their relentless attacks on Palin are helping the McCain campaign. A Rasmussen survey found that a majority of the voters are on to them and that many are now more likely to vote Republican:
Over half of U.S. voters (51%) think reporters are trying to hurt Sarah Palin with their news coverage, and 24% say those stories make them more likely to vote for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in November.
So, let’s hope they continue to pursue the phony troopergate story.
UPDATE I:
Commenter Gypsy Man points out that the Democrat “investigating” this phony scandal, Hollis French, is a transparent Obama partisan. At least two blogs have discovered pro-Obama quotes by this hack. This is from Obama’s campaign web site:
“Senator Obama has a plan to end our dependence on foreign oil and reduce syrocketing energy prices,” said Senator Hollis French.
This is from Fox News:
Said state Sen. Hollis French, an Anchorage Democrat: “There is a real sense of energy coming off that campaign that is completely lacking from the other side.”
Anyone think this guy is going to conduct a fair investigation?
UPDATE II:
According to the Anchorage Daily News, the Democrat investigating Palin has made so many partisan remarks that an Alaska legislator has demanded his removal from the investigation:
A ranking Republican state representative is calling for Anchorage Democratic Sen. Hollis French to step down as manager of the Legislature’s “troopergate” investigation.
The remarks Senator French has made to the media include the following:
French, in an interview carried on ABCNews.com, said the report would be an “October surprise” for the Palin administration.
Can anyone say “partisan witch hunt”?
UPDATE III:
A succinct description of trooper Wooten’s wacky and worrisome behavior can be found at Explorations (items 32-34). This blog has become a spontaneous clearinghouse for the various and sundry Palin rumors, urban myths, and general BS currently stinking up the blogosphere.

Amen! Troopergate=witch hunt—Governor Palin did nothing wrong, but Monegan did by not firing maniac state trooper Mike Wooten.
You should also know that the person in charge of the investigation, Hollis French, has been exposed as a partisan Democrat Obama supporter who has leaked information damaging to Governor Palin. http://www.notwrightforamerica.com has the details that you won’t get from the liberal media, Flopping Aces has a good post on this too.

When it is impossible to win in the arena of ideas, you perform argumentum ad hominem.
Posted 06 Sep 2008 at 4:22 pm ¶^Yeah, I’m glad the Republicans have never been involved in such antics. I must have imagined the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and Karl Rove’s South Carolina race baiting in the 2000 primary.
Posted 06 Sep 2008 at 8:58 pm ¶There’s a major new development. http://www.notwrightforamerica.com shows how partisan Democrat Hollis French has lied about not having anything to do with the substance of the investigation, when in fact he has directed major parts of it. This is smoking gun stuff.
Prediction: French is gone by Friday as “Project Director” (read: puppeteer) of this investigation

The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had one thing behind it that these Palin accusations don’t– concrete proof and indisputable testimony from honorably discharged veterans who served with Kerry.
Have you ever bothered to watch the videos? In my service to the Corps, I’ve been to more countries than I have fingers and toes, and most of them were pretty unremarkable. In that time, I’ve also become quite good at spotting a bullshitter, and Kerry was the largest. Why did Kerry’s own gunner’s mate aboard his boat testify on the videos that the “secret mission into Cambodia” was “categorically a lie” while Kerry never disputed the gunner’s claim? Why is it that Kerry has yet to sign an SF-180 (and actually mail it to Naval Headquarters in Washington)? Why is it that the only known copy of Kerry’s honorable discharge (from his website before it was taken down in the 2004 race) was dated during the Carter administration, when turds could upgrade their discharge status? Could it be that his unauthorized negotiations with communist vietnamese officers in Paris while he was still a part of the reserve component of the navy, with an unretired commission of office in the navy, still subject to the articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, had something to do with his discharge status needing an upgrade during the Carter administration?
Accusations that are backed by truth are not defamation. Similarly, Kerry to this date has never tried to take his “concrete” evidence to prove the Swift Boat vets accusations as false and slanderous, and it rests upon the accused to provide material proof that such statements are false.
In short, the Swift Boats might have been mean to Kerry, but at least they were honest.
