Not all that clear

Yes, largely, but not necessarily that trip. As her lawyer put it, it was the “last” straw. Inside Alaska he had flouted normal practices in attempts to get some of her work overturned, ignored orders, and on and on. Which for whatever reasons he had not [noticeably] done in his earlier position. Which he was offered but (understandably, seeing it as a demotion) turned down.

But ABC is also conflating two seperate “troopergate” inquiries.

“Last week a legislative panel approved a subpoena for Nizich to be interviewed by Stephen Branchflower, the prosecutor hired to conduct the Alaska Legislature’s inquiry into Troopergate. ”

That is inquiry number one: perhaps best understood as being headed by a political opponent who ran as a former Marine (“Gunny”) but was not…

Inquiry number two, a separate one she started to get her side of the story out. But since being picked as VP candidate (which she did not expect back in February when the McCain campaign asked if they could vet her along with a number of other possibilities) coming up with some of the required stuff – especially time – has become at best difficult.

And of course, the whole thing is stupid to the Nth degree. Mr. Monegan has himself stated that she never pressed him to fire the guy but had other reasons to dismiss Monegan. And yes, her husband did mention it to him – but at the instigation of the state security team assigned to her, who were worried about the potential threat, not by Gov. Palin.
