I’VE GOT BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS

Last week, I wrote about the leftward pressure that would be brought to bear on our new President-elect by people like Pete Stark and Ted Kennedy. Bloomberg reports that Kennedy and his accomplices are indeed locked and loaded on health care:

Senator Edward Kennedy’s staff is holding regular meetings with interest groups to translate President-elect Barack Obama’s health-care plan into legislation that can be passed by Congress, an aide said.

This sounds innocuous enough. However, the plan favored by Kennedy is Medicare-for-all, a single-payer system similar to Canada’s that is nowhere near as “moderate” as the health care plan that Obama ran on. This is also the system favored by Pete Stark.

That the current Medicare program for seniors is horribly inefficient and on the verge of bankruptcy has no meaning for these people. And with supporters so steeped in Kool-Aid that they will cheer anything Obama does, what incentive does he have to stick to his moderate position?
