SMALL CHANGE: A RETREAD FOR HHS

Tom Daschle? Are you kidding me? This character was so irresponsible as Senate Majority Leader that his constituents gave him the bum’s rush. And his big idea for reform, as the WSJ Health Blog points out, is yet another government behemoth to meddle in health care:

His basic idea: Create a board modeled on the Federal Reserve to ‘offer a public framework within which a private health-care system can operate more effectively and efficiently — insulated from political pressure yet accountable to elected officials and the American people.’

If you believe this board would be “insulated from political pressure,” I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to talk to you about. And I’m not sure that it’s a great idea to emulate the Fed just now. Unless you want health care to be managed as “effectively and efficiently”as the financial system.

BTW, what’s with all the retreads? I thought Obama was the candidate of change.
