After OB1 & Michelle has finished with your country you'll run to Sarah Palin and what she represents.
Substance always beats show in the long term and OB1 hasn't got it.

Palin represents all that is best about the USA and her detractors represent all that is not.

Theocon now that is an epitaph I could live with.

"We are not a land of parlimentary j-offs. We are a country of individuals and entrepreneurs. We are a country of the winners and losers and we need to remember that. If someone is satisfied with mediocracy, they need to go back to Europe, where it has evolved to an art form."

I've never read anything about market-based economics creating a zero sum game. Have you watched Wall Street lately or something?

I like her because she is real. I have not seen a shred of evidence in her governing to support the theocon title. Just because one is a person of faith doesn't automatically mean they are deferring to it on the political stage. If that were the case, we would be in more trouble now with Barry. I want a no BS strait shooter, and I don't give a damn if they went to a junior college. I know a lot of top notch entrepreneurs that never went to college that would be a better pick for public office than 99% of the clowns we have in Washington.

I was surprised with the Noonan pieces. I remember a lot of people were saying a lot of the same things about her former boss. They were also proven wrong.

I'm not even a big Palin fan, but I do like her and think she deserves a shot.

Aside from a cataclysmic Obama first term, it's going to take a "big tent" to beat the Obama juggernaut. The idea that the Republicans can win with their intellectual wing in revolt is problematic at best. Someone has to write the books, craft the speeches, pound away at the blogs, convince people to write checks, and the like. Sarah Palin sure ain't going to do this nerdy grunt work.

Will, Noonan, and Frum are establishment (countryclub) Republicans. They still have platforms, but they represent a dying and increasungly irrelevant clique.

This notion that Palin appeals only to "theocons" (that mythical cadre) is just another bullet point in the DNC talking points. Many secular conservatives are for her (including me).

The real battle in the party will be be between the "country club" Republicans and the "country music" Republicans. Palin can lead the latter to prominence during the next 4 years----if she wants to.

Dave,

It's not just left wingers that have been critical of Sarah Palin. There are a number of non-left wing writers (George Will, Peggy Noonan, David Frum, Chris Hitchens) who have written scathingly comments about her.

"According to this poll, Republicans favor her over all likely competitors."

This is irrelevant until the party is rebuilt. And you're not going to be able to do it with a candidate that appeals almost exclusively to the "theocons".

Cheers,

Joe

Marc, you should use the word “stupid” with care, particularly when you so readily swallow the latest meme fed to you by the DNC and the media.

Indeed, anyone who believes that braying ass Joe Biden is a better fit for the VP slot than Palin (or any sentient being) should not question anyone else’s intellectual powers .

The reason Palin is still popular is because people want to see what stupid thing she does next. As one commentator said, 'She's too stupid to know she's stupid' - and you wanted her a heartbeat from the presidency!
