Anyone expecting congressional Republicans to hold the line on health care should consider today’s craven GOP behavior on SCHIP. The Republicans know this is a bad bill, and that Bush was right to veto the boondoggle when he was President. But don’t look for much GOP courage this time around:
It’s a twofer tonight for the B.O. Republicans, who’ll be busy on the Senate floor approving Tim Geithner’s Treasury Secretary nomination — and also working with the Dems to pass the S-CHIP Trojan Horse and pave the way for universal health care mandates.
Apparently the GOP has decided to go back to the bad old days, when the party accepted its minority status without making waves. Congressional Republicans would rather protect their positions on the cocktail party circuit than protect their constituents from bad legislation.
