DASCHLE THE DODGER AT HHS

Well, it would appear that our new President has an afinity for tax dodgers. First, he puts tax cheat Timothy Geithner in charge of the IRS. Now he wants tax cheat Tom Daschle to run Health & Human Services.

This highlights the essential hypocrisy that animates all “progressive” policy makers. Tom Daschle plans to vacuum your pockets to pay for an unworkable universal health care system, but his money is off limits:

The report indicates that Daschle’s failure to pay more than $101,000 taxes on the car and driver a wealthy friend let him use from 2005 through 2007 is not the only tax issue the former Senate Majority Leader has been dealing with … Mr. Daschle also didn’t report $83,333 in consulting income in 2007.

And then there’s the issue of Daschle’s lobbying ties to the health care industry:

Daschle, the former Senate Democratic leader who President Obama has tapped to overhaul the nation’s healthcare system, was paid $220,000 to give speeches to outfits that have a vested interest in the result the work he would do once confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

This is, of course, business as usual for Democrats. I guess the only question is how long it will take before the alleged opposition party rolls over and accepts this hypocrisy as just another inadvertant “goof.”

UPDATE:

Expanding on the theme of pusillanimous Republicans and their pathetic acquiescence in Democrat skulduggery, Riehl gets it about right:

If our current leadership cannot muster enough public outrage over this gross misconduct to obstruct Daschle’s appointment, then there is no reason to believe that they have what it takes to lead the Republican Party forward in a new direction.

Amen.
