This is very good news for U.S. health care. Daschle’s one big idea was the creation of a federal health bureaucracy whose decrees would have superseded the decisions of physicians and their patients.
His “Federal Health Board” would have been modeled on Great Britain’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), which regularly hands down death sentences to gravely ill patients.
Unfortunately, our new President may well replace him with someone even worse. In fact, some people are speculating that Obama might pick Howard Dean. Yikes!
