It’s obvious that the new President is indeed transcendant. He has definitely gone beyond politics as usual—-to a realm of cynicism unimagined by the old time hacks of Pendergrass and Tammany Hall.
First, with the help of Congressional accomplices, he stuffed the “stimulus bill” with outrageous health care provisions that he knows the public would never support in an honest piece of legislation.
Now, he’s attempting to flout the Constitution by hijacking the census for partisan advantage. This power grab is so brazen that Judd Gregg has withdrawn his own nomination as Commerce Secretary:
I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me … we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns.
From Republicanese to English, that translates roughly as follows: “The bastard lied to my face.” But Senator Gregg isn’t the first to be taken in by the pretty talk. Nor will he be the last.
The voters have been suckered by Obama on health care, the economy, the war on terror, and much else. Our only hope is that they wake up by 2012 and give him the Jimmy Carter treatment.
