OBAMACARE & THOUGHT CRIME

For anyone still in doubt about how the advocates of Obamacare plan to conduct the health care debate, the latest two minutes of hate from Linda Bergthold provides an instructive case study in the kind of villification that awaits anyone who dares to voice dissent:

In President Barack Obama’s February 28 video address, he acknowledged the coming opposition … But did we anticipate adequately that these two provisions would be so commingled, misunderstood, or hysterically misrepresented in the media as they were?

For Bergthold, whose contribution to the health care debate prior to last November’s election consisted mainly of catty pieces about Sarah Palin, there can be no legitimate objection to Obama’s health agenda. Anyone who points out inconvenient facts is a thought criminal:

It may have started with the reemergence of an annoying critic of the Clinton health reform plan, Betsy McCaughey, and an editorial she wrote for Bloomberg News titled “Ruin your Health with the Obama Stimulus Plan.

Having thus outed the McGaughey as a long-standing member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, Bergthold proceeds to deliver what she fancies is the most damning indictment of the Bloomberg piece—-it was quoted by (gasp) Rush Limbaugh:

McCaughey’s comments were almost instantly picked up by Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, the Drudge Report, the Wall Street Journal, and local radio talk show hosts around the country (such as Ronn Owens at KGO in SF).

My God, will these fiends stop at nothing? I mean, do they actually believe they have a right to voice an opinion? But it gets worse. It turns out that even the New York Times is guilty of thought crime. The Gray Lady, it seems, actually linked to Limbaugh and McGaughey:

By providing links to McCaughey and Limbaugh, the Times attributed credibility to their claims, in a style very common among journalists today. Make a statement, provide a quote, make another statement, provide another quote. Voila. You are being fair and balanced. Analysis or critical deconstruction be damned.

Beyond demonstrating that she doesn’t know the definitions of ”attributed” or “deconstruction,” Bergthold has given us a very useful glimpse of the Orwellian mindset at work among the Obots. They decry the “right wing attack machine” while villifying anyone expressing an unapproved viewpoint.
