I was wondering if you'd had a chance to read Atul Gawande's profile of healthcare in McAllen. Seems like McAllen is the logical extension of free-market healthcare. What are your thoughts?

Agree. Healthcare (or anything) that is free has to be paid for somewhere along the line.

The trick is to make the payments invisible. If it's coming out of your paycheck under withholding, it won't be free.

But, if the same amount is lumped in with your federal withholding, and goes to pay insurance, people will think healthcare is free. After all, it doesn't specifically say on the paycheck where the money is going.
