During last year’s presidential campaign the following ad, in which the Obama campaign accused John McCain of wanting to “tax health care instead of fixing it,” was probably a significant factor in McCain’s demise:
Thus, many were outraged when our new President and his congressional accomplices proposed a very similar health benefits tax—-minus McCain’s $5,000 tax credit.
But a funny thing happened during the the July 4 congressional recess: several public opinion polls revealed that the voters still don’t like the idea of a health benefits tax:
Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., said that public polls conducted over the July 4 congressional recess and reviewed by senators are causing lawmakers to have second thoughts about limiting the tax exclusion for employer health plans.
In other words, the Dems are cowards as well as hypocrites. Have no fear, however. As Michelle points out, these thieves will find some way to raise your taxes. It’s what they do best.

Tax-free employer paid benefits already acts as a tax because that money would have been in your paycheck. If the government took money from your wages and used it to pay 50% of your health insurance premium, wouldn’t you call that a tax? That’s all this supposed benefit is.
There are a lot of reasons that health care is expensive, but one of the biggest is this government-created scheme of tax exempt employer-funded health plans.
I’d prefer they eliminate the tax-free aspect of the benefit, allow me to opt out of the employer-based plan, receive higher wages, and give me that McCain tax exemption to go buy my own insurance on the individual market.
But that’s just me. I hate taxes and love money.
