Peter Orszag was, before he made his Faustian bargain and joined the Obama Adminsitration, the Director of the CBO. In those days, he could count. Now, however, he has traded in his calculator for a political bludgeon.

And who is Mr. Orszag whacking over the head with his brand new bludgeon? His hapless successor at the Congressional Budget Office,  Doug Elmendorf.

White House Budget Director Peter Orszag said the CBO’s analysis — which it relayed to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer on Saturday — could feed a perception of the office’s bias toward ‘exaggerating costs and underestimating savings.

And what was Elmendorf’s crime? Providing a “quantitative estimate” of how little will be saved by Obamacare’s latest gimic, IMAC. In other words, he did the math and Orszag is pissed:

In providing a quantitative estimate of long-term effects without any analytical basis for doing so, CBO seems to have overstepped.

Orszag’s credibility is now shot to pieces. He has obviously decided that D.C. math pays better than Earth math. As Ed Morrissey corrrectly puts it:

Orszag has been an embarrassment as OMB director, and now he’s becoming dangerous to the separation of powers between the branches of government.

Time for this guy to go back to honest work.
