PUBLIC OPTION MEETS THE DEATH PANEL

Kent Conrad, a key Senate Democrat, has made it clear that the so-called public option will not be included in any health care “reform” legislation passed by Congress:

Look, the fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the U.S. Senate for the public option, there never have been.

Meanwhile, Obama’s HHS Secretary has also begun waving the flag of surrender on the public option:

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius remark[ed] that a public option is ‘not the essential element’ to ensure competition in the health insurance market.

So, it’s a pretty good bet that the public option will go the way of the end-of-life-counseling provision. The battle isn’t won yet, however. As Ed Morrissey points out:

The biggest threat now would be that both the Senate and the House might pass separate bills without public options, and then have it restored in conference committee.

And this is but one tactic the Dems can employ to circumvent the will of the voters. Indeed, there isn’t much these people won’t do. They are very sneaky characters.
