Patrick Appel highlights a chart created by Conor Clarke to demonstrate the logical flaw in Joe Lieberman’s suggestion that we put health reform off until after the recession.
The chart does indeed smash Lieberman’s argument to hash, but both Appel and Clarke ignore the most significant feature of the chart. Look at the deficit impact after 2012:
Hmm … Why does does 2012 seem significant? Oh, that’s right. That’s when the President will be running for re-election largely on the basis of his as yet unpaid for health reforms.
Joe Lieberman is indeed wrong. We shouldn’t put Obamacare off until after the recession is over. We should put this boondoggle off until right after Hell freezes over.
