Two things strike me as ironic about yesterday’s episode of impromptu cannibalism at an LA health care demonstration: The perpetrator of the violence was (once again) pro-Obamacare and the progressive response to the violence has (once again) been a collective yawn.
As to the latter point, Chris Bodenner’s flippancy was typical. For him, the episode was just a particularly wacky way of “illustrating the value of health care.” I have a feeling that Bodenner would not find the episode so edifying if the victim had been pro-reform. And, as Michelle Malkin points out:
No need to imagine the horrified fulminations from the White House to the New York Times to MSNBC if it had been the other way around.
Another victim of pro-Obamacare violence was Kenneth Gladney, who was beaten by union thugs at Democrat Russ Carnahan’s town hall meeting. Our progessive friends weren’t even slightly interested in the Gladney incident. As Mark Steyn mordantly phrased it:
Not a Sharpton in sight to speak up for him: Mr. Gladney’s only shot at fame is an entry in The Guinness Book of Records under ‘Least Famous Black Hate-Crime Victim In America.’
Meanwhile, the victim of today’s attack is no whiner. He apparently isn’t going to sue anyone (that alone is newsworthy these days). He advises us that “freedom isn’t free.” Here’s a video (via Hot Air) of William Rice talking about the incident:

I must say you’re providing some entertainment, David. So William Rice, by his own admission, throws not one but two first punches in the name of ‘freedom’ - and gets treated by Medicare. A video of Gladney shows the complete opposite of his story - it was a pastor, not him, who ended up on the floor with a dislocated shoulder. And Gladney it turns out does not have health insurance of his own. Keep up the comedy - it’s good to have laughs of a working morning.

I have seen them do this in other areas, yell into someone’s face, literallty touching noses, and then whine when they get a beatdown.
As far as Medicare, it has metasticised into the society to an extent that it doesn’t make sense not to elect. Of course he may have a MA plan. Regardless, his coverage choice does not justify a Marxist kook biting off his finger.
I am not aware of the video you are referring to, so I can’t speak to it’s validity. I would argue that this debate is also about protecting the freedom of people that choose not to purchase coverage.
