Well, another public opinion poll shows Obamacare on the skids. Only two-fifths of the respondents favor the Democrat version of “reform.”
Only 41% favor the health-care reform plans in Congress now, while a steady 56% oppose them. Seniors hate the idea, and independents have almost disappeared from Obama’s flank on this issue.
There are a variety of reasons for this slide. Mainly, the congressional bills have nothing to do with fixing health care. They are obviously vote-buying schemes.
Another factor involves illegal aliens. The Dems are apparently determined to include a provision that extends free care to people who aren’t U.S. citizens.
For my part, I’m not that worried about this. U.S. hospitals already provide care to undocumented patients. And there are provisions in these bills that are much worse (like mandates).
There are, however, lots of people who care about it. If the president and his congressional accomplices insist on a provision that explicitly covers illegal aliens, there will be Hell to pay in 2010.
