As the Weekly Standard reports, Nancy Pelosi promised that the Democrat health care ”reform” bill would be available for public perusal for 72 hours prior to any vote:
On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that she was “absolutely” committed to putting the text of the final House bill online for 72 hours before the House votes:
I guess we can assume that was yet another Pelosi prevarication, in as much as she’s trying to ram the bill up our down our throats in an extraordinary Saturday session without giving us so much as a peek.
A significant bone of contention in today’s House debate has been the Stupak amendment, put forward by anti-abortion Democrat Bart Stupak, which would prevent the Pelosi bill from funding abortions.
This led to the most ironic exchange of the day, in which John Boehner asked Charlie Rangel for assurance that the Stupak amendment would remain in the final version of the legislation.
Rangel, with a straight face, actually said such a guarantee would violate House ethics rules. Nope. I’m not (as Dave Barry would put it) making this up. Heres the video:
Now THAT takes crust.
UPDATE:
Well, the House Dems (with a minor assist from a brain-dead Pubbie from Louisiana) have passed the giant fraud to which they hilariously refer as health “reform.” Allahpundit sums up:
It was closer than I thought: 220-215, 39 Dems voting no and a solitary Republican — Joe Cao, who replaced “Dollar Bill” Jefferson in a blue district in Louisiana — voting yes. Take heart, righties: Reid is incompetent, which makes the likelihood of 60 votes in the Senate, especially after a vote this narrow, very slim indeed.
Hmm …
