HEALTH CARE HORATIUS STILL STANDING FIRM

It looks like Horatius is still at the bridge, holding off the invaders (i.e. Democrats) who want to sack the medical delivery system. Joe Lieberman, having already promised to filibuster any “reform” bill containing a public option, has now served notice that he plans to stop Harry Reid’s Medicare expansion scam:

Mr. Lieberman told the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, to scrap the idea of expanding Medicare and to abandon the idea of any new government insurance plan, or lose his vote.

Predictably, the vitriol is pouring forth from the whackosphere:

With regard to Holy Joe, there’s really nothing to say that Steve Benan and Ezra Klein haven’t reiterated and documented  about his intellectually dishonest, factually inaccurate, self-contradictory, self-serving, grandstanding opposition to the public option and his faux fiscal rectitude.

This is empty slander of course. Neither Benen nor Klein have made cases that come close to supporting this sort of vituperation. This is just the standard treatment that trimmers and poseurs always reserve for honest men taking honest positions. There is nothing more galling to the unprincipled than the sight of a truly principled stand.

Joe Lieberman was chosen by Al Gore as a candidate for Vice-President because he was honest, true to his convictions, patriotic, and modestly conservative in many areas. He did his duty, compromised and “put on hold” most of his stances when Gore decided to become a far left wing nut instead of what he had always been. After losing the election, Joe took a long hot shower, got hosed off, and caked himself in lime to get the left wing loonie lice off himself. He was rewarded by losing his own party primary. His best friend ran against a radical lefty that even HE couldn’t support, so he did the right thing again and stood by the candidate that was best for his country and not his party. If they had just ONE more Democrat they would have banished him already. It must be frustrating as hell to the tax and spenders in power that they NEED an honest moderate principled Democrat one more time.
