Harry Reid is snakebit. He can’t even pull off a garden-variety lie anymore. This afternoon, he was forced to walk back his lie about being “double-crossed” on health care reform by Joe Lieberman :

On Thursday afternoon, Reid issued a vaguely worded statement attempting to diffuse tension caused by remarks a New York Times magazine story attributed to him that Lieberman “double-crossed� him.

But, as usual, Reid refused to play it straight. He didn’t actually admit he lied:

Senator Lieberman and I have a very open and honest working relationship … On issues ranging from foreign policy to health care, even when we disagree, he has always been straight forward with me.

But Lieberman, in a subsequent statement, helped him out with the details:

As Senator Reid indicated in his statement, he believes, as do I, that we have always been honest with each other and any suggestion otherwise is simply false and contrary to the truth.

Poor Harry. He has the reverse-Midas touch. Everything he touches turns to dross. Let’s hope that also holds true in the case of health reform. Here’s hoping he’ll cause Obamacare to collapse.
