COAKLEY: CATHOLICS SHOULDN’T WORK IN HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOMS

In a radio interview conducted yesterday, Massachusetts Senate candidate Martha Coakley asserted that devout catholics (i.e. those who object to abortion) should not work in hospital emergency rooms:

Yammering about “separation of church and state,” she actually has the temerity to say, “You can have religious freedom, but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.” Here’s the audio:

This woman is scary. If that audio didn’t convince you, read this horrifying piece by Dorothy Rabinowitz.

She’s probably right, at least about those who cannot check their beliefs at the door when administering emergency care.

Funny, but I came here expecting a site that combatted health care bs, not one that trafficked in it. But I like your reading line about the Stables…

Just do add on to what Jamey said above, why stop at the issue of contraception? Jehova’s Witnesses believe that any use of blood products is a sin, so should that mean that patients should be denied emergency transfusions, if a doctor can’t check that belief at the door?

I’ll just repeat what the above commentors stated. Coakley’s statement, “You (devout Catholics) can have religious freedom, but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room” is practical, although not religiously tolerant.

I would resent working with another doc who can not/will not perform the full scope of responsibilities desired by the patients and required by the Hospital.
