INCOMING: YET ANOTHER OBAMACARE TAX

Another day, another tax. Have the President and his congressional accomplices EVER had a meeting in which they didn’t think of a new way to vacuum our pockets? Their latest idea suggests that they’re tired of scraping by on the money they siphon out of our paychecks:

Democratic congressional leaders are considering a new strategy to help finance their ambitious healthcare plan — applying the Medicare payroll tax not just to wages but to capital gains, dividends and other forms of unearned income.

The Democrats are, of course, trying to bridge the financing gap left by the special exemption from the Cadillac tax they gave the labor unions yesterday in a deal that makes Ben Nelson’s “Cornhusker Kickback” seem honest by comparison:

Obama and Senate Democrats have wanted a big part of the financing to be a tax on expensive health insurance plans, but that is opposed by labor leaders.

Those labor leaders “opposed” the tax by getting Obama behind closed doors and saying, “Nice congressional majority you have there. Hate to see anything happen to it.” In other words, they threatened to withhold essential campaign contributions from the Dems.

The Democrats are, of course, pitching this gigantic tax increase as a “tax on the rich,” but they know perfectly well that tens of millions of ordinary Americans, including vulnerable retirees, will take a huge hit from such a tax. And its effect on the economy would be devastating:

‘If the goal of the congressional Democratic negotiators is to keep the economy in perpetual recession, having the Medicare tax apply to investment is a darn good way to do it,’  said Ryan Ellis, tax policy director for the conservative group Americans for Tax Reform.

So, in order to propitiate their union bosses, President Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress are preparing to shaft the voters yet again. And all in the cause of producing a piece of legislation that will exacerbate every problem that besets our current health care system.
