House Minority Leader John Boehner released another statement today calling on the President and congressional Dems to engage in GENUINE bipartisanship on health care reform:
A productive bipartisan discussion should begin with a clean sheet of paper. We now know that instead of starting the ‘bipartisan’ health care ’summit’ on Feb. 25 with a clean sheet of paper, the president and his party intend to arrive with a new bill written behind closed doors exclusively by Democrats.
Surely the Dems aren’t up to that BS again. Can they really be such slow learners that they haven’t figured out how angry the voters anout that kind of skulduggery? Yep.
In fact, it has been widely reported that Reid and Pelosi are furiously working on another backroom deal so Obama can spring it to the GOP as a fait accompli at the “bipartsian summit.
Needless to say, this did not increase the trust level among the Republicans invited to the summit. The GOP leadership issued a press release demanding that the Dems come clean:
House GOP leaders today challenged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to respond to news reports that they are working behind closed doors to finalize a health care bill in advance of a proposed bipartisan White House summit on the issue.
All of which begs the following question: Why would House and Senate Republicans particpate in such a charade? They keep sending nastygrams, yet they still (apparently) plan to attend.
Why not simply tell Obama, Reid and Pelosi to take their phony summit and shove it?
