PODESTA: HEALTH OF U.S. POLITICS “SUCKS”

In this interview with the Financial Times, John Podesta does a lot of whining about the evil Republicans (including Palin, Boehner, et al) and blames the latest failure of ”progressive” policies on our political system.

But the most interesting section (beginning at the 4:39 mark) involves health reform. He all but admits that Obamacare is dead and essentially describes how Obama and the White House killed it:

All the concentration was on working the inside legislative process … I think they paid a price for that … the narrative was all about the deals … They lost the narrative …

The real problem, of course, has nothing to do with the health of contemporary U.S. politics. The problem is that the Democrats have been selling very bad policies and the public has said, “No sale.”

But most Americans want the government to press ahead with reform - this poll says 63% want Washington to keep trying to pass comprehensive healthcare reform. So your do nothing just say no negativity is not what most people want. Even 42% of Republicans want to keep trying - and 58% of all think Republicans are doing too little to compromise with Obama.
