Because Bart Stupak sold out his constituents for an empty promise from the pathological liar who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the Democrats were able to thumb their collective nose at the American people and pass Obamacare. Here’s a list of some freedoms that you lost in last night’s vote:
1. Don’t need or want a health insurance policy? Sorry, the individual mandate makes it a federal crime not to buy insurance.
2. Want to pay less in premiums by buying health insurance coverage with limits on coverage? Sorry, Obamacare also dictates how much coverage you must buy (including maternity coverage if you are a single male).
3. Want cosmetic surgery? That’s OK, but Obamacare requires that pay a new “boob tax equaling 5% of the cost of your procedure.
4. As an employer, you’d like to offer your employees high-deductible coverage or policies that don’t cover “children as old as age 26? Sorry, that’s now illegal.
5. As a business-owner with 100 employees, you want to expand your sales and hire a few more people? Sorry, if you hire one more person, Obamacare requires you to buy insurance for all your employees.
6. You’re a physician and don’t want the government looking over your shoulder? Sorry, the HHS is now authorized to use your claims data to measure the resources you use.
7. You’re a physician and you want to own a surgery center? Sorry, that’s now illegal if it wasn’t in place before February 1, 2010.
8. You’re a health insurer and you want to raise premiums to meet costs? Sorry, if HHS deems your increase “unreasonable, you can’t do it.
9. You’re an insurance company and you want to pay your CEO more than $500,000 in deferred compensation? Sorry, that’s now illegal.
10. Make more than $200K? Sorry, you now have an additional 0.5% payroll tax on any dollar you make over that amount. It starts at $250K if you file a joint return.
The scariest feature of this list is that it only covers the OBVIOUS rights you just lost. The above was adapted from a more detailed summary provided by David Hogberg, who lists 20 lost freedoms at IBD. And David’s itemization, though thorough, is by no means comprehensive.
No one really knows how many attacks on personal freedom are hidden in this abomination. And all for a program that will dramatically raise costs while reducing access and quality.
Time for a House cleaning.
