The Democrat party line on Obamacare is that all great social programs are controversial but quickly gain acceptance after passage. Their obvious hope is that Obamacare will soon be as popular as Social Security, and that the voters will forgive their recent skulduggery.
Well, Obamacare had better get popular in a hurry or the Democrats are toast. Gallup’s latest poll of registered voters makes it clear that their party-line passage of health care “reform” has done them enormous damage. At present, the GOP leads them in the generic ballot 47 to 44.
If that doesn’t seem particularly ominous, compare it to the numbers Gallup showed just before the GOP won both houses of Congress back in 1994. These polls tend to overstate Democrat support, yet they were running no better than even with the Republicans that cataclysmic year.
In other words, the Democrats are in much worse shape NOW than they were in 1994. And the most dramatic dip in their numbers came right after Obamacare passed. The following chart, compiled by Pollster.com from all the major surveys confirms the bad news:
Still not convinced the Dems are going to be hammered in November? Well, consider this little datum: The most recent Washington Post/ABC News poll shows public disapproval of Congress at 72%. Any guesses as to when the disapproval percentage was last that high?
Yep. It was 1994.
