The Democrats who rammed Obamacare through are now hiding from the voters they betrayed. Nancy Pelosi and the President have encouraged rank-and-file House members to promote Obamacare while home on Spring recess, but most are deliberately avoiding their constituents:
Instead of barnstorming their districts … some have been content to remain beneath the radar, reluctant to advertise their role in passing the centerpiece of President Barack Obama’s domestic policy agenda.
One of these “reluctant” congressman is Rep. John Boccieri, from northeast Ohio, whose vote for Obamacare was touted by the President and Pelosi as courageous. He is not, however, brave enough to face his own constituents:
Boccieri has gone dark, surfacing only last Wednesday night — in New York City — at a cocktail party fundraiser to benefit his reelection campaign. Otherwise, the congressman had no public schedule.
And Rep. Boccieri is by no means the only House Democrat too craven to face angry consitituents. Another such poltroon is North Dakota congressman Earl Pomeroy, whose strategy is to change the subject:
Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.), has not held any events in Republican-oriented North Dakota to talk about health care, his staff acknowledged. This week, he’ll talk about Social Security.
Other House Democrats conspicuous for their cowardice are Reps. Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.), Allen Boyd (D-Fla.), Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.) and John Salazar (D-Colo.). And here’s the strategy they are being told to follow:
Local Democratic leaders think it’s politically smart … to fly under the radar — at least until the situation cools down.
This is the sort of thing criminals do after they’ve committed a particularly egregious crime. It is not the behavior of honorable people who have served their constituents with honesty and integrity. The most “ethical and open Congress in history” is, in fact, a gang of grifters.
These people are better candidates for tar and feathers than for reelection to Congress.
