Unless they’re insane, many rank-and-file congressional Democrats are begining to doubt the wisdom of ramming Obamacare through. Those promises they got from Obama and Pelosi won’t protect them from this:
Americans’ favorable rating of the Democratic Party dropped to 41% in a late March USA Today/Gallup poll, the lowest point in the 18-year history of this measure.
But wait: It gets even worse for the Dems. The voters have also developed a very strong distaste for congressional incumbents. Take a gander at this harbinger of doom:
A record-low percentage of U.S. voters — 28% — say most members of Congress deserve to be re-elected.
And, no matter how much the Democrats and their cheerleaders in the establishment “news” media talk about general hostility toward “all incumbents,” it’s the Dems who run Congress:
The trend for previous midterm elections reveals that the 28% re-elect figure puts the sitting majority party in a danger zone.
The last two times the majority party lost Congress, the switch was presaged by this indicator. But this time it’s worse. In 1994 and 2006, it went down to the high thirties. Now, the percentage is 10 points lower.
Finally, it’s not just Republicans who want a change in Congress. Fully 72% of independents say incumbents don’t deserve to be reelected. One doesn’t have to be a political professional to see where this is going.
The voters tried to warn them in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts. They listened to Obama instead.
