Over at Kevin MD the President of the AMA, J. James Rohack, has contributed a post celebrating his organization’s role in the recent betrayal of patients, doctors and voters. As HCBS readers will remember, Dr. Rohack and the AMA sided with the Democrats against the American people in exchange for a gigantic bribe.
This was such a brazen example of corrupt Beltway politics that the Dems couldn’t get it through Congress as part of the “reform” package. So, the Obama administration used its apparatchiks at CMS pay out the AMA’s 30 pieces of silver. Thus, Dr. Rohack dutifully parrots the party line:
The health reform package extends health coverage to more than 30 million uninsured, improves competition and choice in the insurance marketplace, promotes prevention and wellness, reduces administrative burdens, and promotes clinical comparative effectiveness research.
Unless he is certifiably insane, Dr. Rohack knows perfectly well that every syllable of this passage is false. He is, in other words, lying about the “benefits” of Obamacare. Moreover, he has joined the Democrats and the news media (but I repeat myself) in their use of Orwellian doublespeak.
Dr. Rohack’s most Orwellian claim is that Obamacare “imroves competition and choice in the insurance marketplace.” The reality, of course, is that it does precisely the opposite. In fact, Obamacare takes away our most fundamental insurance choice—-whether to buy health coverage at all.
Obamacare also takes away our right to choose a health insurance policy that meets our specific needs. The bill that Rohack calls a “victory for patients” also mandates a one-size-fits-all benefit package that will include such things as maternity coverage for single males and hair pieces for folks who aren’t bald.
I don’t have the time this morning to fisk the rest of Rohack’s self-serving doublespeak, but you get the idea. I will point out, however, that this is why AMA membership has shrunk to a mere 17% of practicing physicians and why doctors like Milton Wolf regard the organization with undisguised contempt.
The AMA can no longer claim to represent doctors or patients. It has, instead, become just another gear in the Democrat-MSM complex.
