Hmm … They have been telling us that a majority of Americans favor this “historic” legislation. So, why do they need a heavyweight PR guy to sell it?
Top White House officials told Democratic Senators yesterday that they’re planning to [turn the attention of a very senior] — but unnamed — communications hand to help defend health care legislation, a source familiar with the briefing said.
And what does this say about Obama’s zillions of speeches on its virtues? Apparently, he has once again failed to move the dial:
The White House communications director said they expected to announce a very senior, and well known, communications [aide] for the push on health care messaging, the source said.
The most interesting part of the announcement is that it took place at a meeting of no doubt nervous Democrat Senators.
Pollsters Geoff Garin and Joel Benenson, and White House aides David Axelrod, Dan Pfeiffer, Phil Schiliro, and Jim Messina addressed the Democratic Policy Committee’s regular Thursday lunch … to discuss the political calendar and the defense of health care.
The Senators have probably been looking at their bleak poll numbers and whining to the White House that Obama’s sales pitch is falling flat.
Why do I get the feeling there will soon be some serious prevarication emanating from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
