GALLUP’S GENERIC BALLOT MIRRORS 1994

Gallup’s latest polling numbers are out and, perversely, they chose to highlight the narrowing (down to 10 points) of the GOP advantage in the “enthusiasm gap.” This has some conservatives wringing their hands, but the big story is the generic ballot—and it contains good news for the Republicans:

If a 45-45 tie doesn’t seem very impressive, have a look at the same Gallup chart from 1994—-just before the big GOP victory. It shows voter preference almost exactly where it is right now:

In other words, combined with their 10-point lead in the enthusiasm gap, the GOP is poised for another big win. I guess I should be guarded in my optimism, considering the Republican proclivity for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Nonetheless, these are good numbers for the GOP.

Pelosi and Obama promised House Democrats that voter anger over Obamacare would would soon be replaced with an appreciation of the bill’s “benefits.” Well, it would appear that this was another work of fiction from the fabulists at the WH, and the voters are having trouble suspending their disbelief.
