The party line from the Democrats and the MSM (but I repeat myself) on Alan Mollohan’s defeat in his West Virginia primary is that his corruption caught up with him. And Mollohan is indeed corrupt, which explains why some conservatives have fallen in line with the Dem-MSM meme.
But what really brought about the much-deserved defeat of this character was his “yes” vote on Obamacare. Mollohan was one of several Dems targeted by the Susan B. Anthony List, which promised to defeat any allegedly pro-life ”Blue Dogs” who voted for Obamacare. And SBA has formally claimed his scalp:
In a statement Tuesday night, SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said Mollohan’s primary loss is a ‘direct result of his vote for health care reform that included federal funding of abortion.’
The SBA spent $78,000 on radio and television ads that emphasized his perfidious vote on “reform. They also sponsored a number of robocall campaigns hammering him on the same issue. Dannenfelser says that, unlike Mollohan, her group is keeping a promise:
We promised Rep. Mollohan and the other ‘pro-life’ Democrats that we would make their reelection incredibly painful if they voted ‘yes’ on the health care bill. Tonight, the Susan B. Anthony List followed through on that promise.
These folks aren’t playing. Their promise to work for the defeat of all ”pro-life Democrats” who voted for Obamacare was certainly a decisive factor in Bart Stupak’s decision to retire. Moreover, Mollohan and Stupak are only the first of several faux pro-lifers on their list of targets.
So, this was not about corruption and it certainly wasn’t about an “anti-incumbent mood” among the voters. Mollohan’s defeat was about Obamacare. And many other Democrats will soon be following him to the unemployment line as the direct result of their “yes” votes on that abomination of a bill.
