The defining characteristic of the contemporary “progressive” is a gift for unintentional irony. Exhibit A is D.C. Douglas. Douglas lost the best gig he is ever likely to have by making a crank call to FreedomWorks and leaving his own phone number on the voicemail—after calling THEM “retarded.”
Well, it would appear that Douglas has never learned the first law of holes (i.e. when you find yourself in one, stop digging). Instead of accepting responsibility for his own stupidity (not to mention general nastiness), he is attempting to portray himself as the victim of “blacklisting” by the evil “tea-baggers.”
Thus, he has produced this snide exercise in unintentional irony, in which Tea Partiers are lectured on history by historically illiterate “progressives” too intellectually lazy to learn anything about the Tea Party movement (or anything else). My favorite is the lady who seems to think that Medicare is free:
