On Tuesday, apparently satisfied that his work is done in the Gulf, our President returned to health “reform.” He held a tele-townhall on Obamacare and his introductory remarks, in which he warned seniors to beware of Medicare fraudsters, demonstrate that he hasn’t lost his gift for unintentional irony:
Seniors are frequently targeted by scam artists … It’s appalling and infuriating …
Yes it is, particularly when the scam artist is the President of the United States. Sadly, the above quote is the only accurate statement in Obama’s remarks. The rest of his claims about Medicare and his “reform” law were demonstrably false. The following passage is typical of the whoppers he told his elderly audience:
This new law [Obamacare] gives seniors and their families greater savings, better benefits and higher-quality health care. That’s why it ensures accountability throughout the system so that seniors have greater control over the care that they receive. And that’s why it keeps Medicare strong and solvent -– today and tomorrow.
It would require at least 5,000 words to debunk all of the deliberately misleading BS that Obama fed these credulous seniors in this single preposterous paragraph, and I just don’t have the energy to wade through all of it. So I’ll just cover the portions that obviously fail the laugh test:
1) Will Obamacare provide seniors and their families greater savings? Not a chance. The CBO has said that the new “reform” law will force most Americans to pay higher insurance premiums.
2) What about the benefits? Will they increase? Not a prayer. In fact, due to Obamacare’s $136 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage, millions of seniors will see significant benefit reductions.
3) Will seniors have greater control? LOL. The $500 billion that Obamacare skims off Medicare will necessitate rate cuts to doctors, exacerbating the PCP shortage. Many Medicare patients won’t even be able to find a doctor.
4) Will Obamacare keep Medicare solvent? Absurd. Medicare has unfunded liabilities exceeding $30 trillion. Even if Obama’s claims about the law’s deficit-reduction feature were true, it wouldn’t make a dent.
Obama wrapped up by telling his audience that he had empowered Kathleen Sebelius and Eric Holder to “vigorously crack down” on people who “seek to take advantage of seniors and of taxpayer dollars.” The President should be more circumspect. If Holder and Sebelius take their new assignment seriously, they’ll scrutinize HIS Medicare fraud.
