ALVIN GREENE: MAYBE SC DEMS THOUGHT A PERVERT WAS THEIR LEAST WORST OPTION

You know the party in power is becoming desperate when they demand an investigation into their own primary. And that is preceisely what the Dems are doing in the strange case of Alvin Greene:

As political newcomer Alvin Greene calls on South Carolina’s Democratic establishment to get behind him, party leaders are calling for an investigation into his surprise win in the state’s Democratic Senate primary.

And leading the calls for an investigation into Greene’s surprise victory is that paragon of political virtue, Rep. James Clyburn. Clyburn is suspicious that the surprise nominee is “someone’s plant.”

‘I know a Democratic pattern. I know a Republican pattern, and I saw in the Democratic primary elephant dung all over the place,’ Clyburn, the majority whip, said on CNN’s ‘State of the Union.’

There are, of course, all kinds of other theories about Greene’s victory, including speculation that the voters thought he was a famous singer with a similar name. The whole thing reminds me of that Woody Allen line from Annie Hall about politicians:

You know the ethics those guys have. It’s like a notch underneath child molester.

By that measure, Greene is the best choice. Maybe it’s just that the voters of South Carolina decided that even a pervert like Alvin Greene was a better alternative to the people who now run Congress and the White House.

I’m not so sure they would be wrong in that calculation. Anyone know where he stands on health care?
