DUMBEST REFORM POST OF THE WEEK (XV)

I sometimes suspect that progressives possess a better sense of humor than we give them credit for. The claims they make for Obamacare certainly suggest that. I mean, how else can one explain their claim that is that it saved Medicare, a gag that can be can be found in the latest edition of the Health Wonk Review:

One of HWR’s contributors, D. Brad Wright, breaks the news that Medicare has serious financial problems (who knew?!). Having provided that revelation, he reassures us that everything will be fine after all because ObamaCare passed and it saved Medicare from impending bankruptcy:

It was looking like it was going to happen sometime around 2017 … Fortunately, [Obamacare] passed, and with some relatively small, but significant, changes to Medicare financing law, the Part A trust fund is expected to remain solvent until 2029.

I told you progressives have a sense of humor. Wright got this gag from the latest collection of howlers from the HHS. Alas, not everyone appreciates good humor. Richard Foster, Medicare’s Chief actuary, just doesn’t get the joke. In fact, Foster declared the Trustees report “implausible.”

In fact, Foster took the unprecedented step of publishing an alternative report that uses actual Earth math to calculate what the future REALLY holds for Medicare. And, despite the claims of Mr. Wright and countless other progressive comedians, Medicare is as safe as the Titanic.

That will not, of course, stop these characters from producing such howlers. To paraphrase the late Jimmy Durante, they’ve got a million of ‘em. And that’s a good thing. I mean, one needs a break once in a while from serious health care analysis. The HWR provides just such a break.
