If you thought Ezra Klein was the only member of the “news” media with a single-digit IQ , I recommend this brilliant analysis from ABC News Political Director Amy Walter:
If Republicans decide they’re going to spend the first six months of this year going over and debating the individual mandate or ObamaCare or whatever they want to call it, I think that’s not going to sit very well with the electorate.
Having watched the Dems get hammered in the midterms largely because they rammed ObamaCare down the electorate’s throat, this genius thinks these same voters will be angry if the GOP actually listens to them.
The hopelessly smug Ms. Walter has failed to notice that SERIOUS political commentators point to ObamaCare as a huge factor in the GOP landslide. Even progressive poll analyst Nate Silver confirms that reality:
Democrats were punished by voters for their bailout and health care votes … It does seem fairly clear, however, that individual Democrats who voted against the health care bill … overperformed those who did in otherwise similar districts …
And Silver is by no means the only progressive to have drawn that conclusion. The New Republic laid it out plainly enough to be absorbed by the meanest intelligence (i.e. that possessed by most MSM journalists):
Putting all the data together, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the health reform bill had an independent impact on the Democrats … reducing their support below the level to which the economy alone could have depressed it.
Nonetheless, Ms. Walter and countless other MSM bright sparks ask us to believe ObamaCare is somehow so popular with the voters and that the GOP will be sorry if they meddle with it.
I hope, for their sakes, that the Republicans aren’t dumb enough to follow the advice of people like Ms. Walter.
