Actually, there’s a significant amount of bipartsan support for killing this provision of the “reform” boondoggle. There are at least a dozen Democrats among the 245 co-sponsors of this bill:
Republicans and Democrats, and even the White House, have since said they support repealing this … The bill would repeal language requiring companies, starting in 2012, to report all goods and services transactions valued at more than $600 to the IRS.
In what I hope is a sign of resolve, the GOP actually moved this closer to the front of the line:
House Republicans have re-numbered the bill … Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) had already introduced a so-called 1099 repeal bill, which was numbered H.R. 144. By bumping up that bill to H.R. 4, Republicans are making it clear that they will move this bill on an expedited basis.
The Dems and their friends in the media hope to use the Tucson shooting to cow Republicans into caving on their agenda. That’s why they keep yammering about ”vitriolic rhetoric.”
By moving this particular bill to the front of the line, they are presumably signalling that the scam won’t work. Maybe, for once, they won’t try to kick Lucy’s football.
