Well, Osama bin Laden has finally received his much-needed end-of-life counseling, and that’s a good thing. Nonetheless, I feel compelled to point out that the lefty bloggers and journalists who have been celebrating OBL’s demise by taking cheap shots at G.W. Bush are brazen hypocrites.
They were, until yesterday, against the Bush-sanctioned methods that made it possible. Remember all the sanctimonious caterwauling about those evil secret prisons? Well, a good deal of the data that resulted in Osama bin Laden’s date with the death panel came from those very prisons.
Officials say CIA interrogators in secret overseas prisons developed the first strands of information that ultimately led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Yep. And the information was extracted from the bad guys via waterboarding and other torture methods denounced by these same progressive hypocrites:
In 2007 terror suspects at the Guantanamo Bay military prison started giving up information about the key courier … The use of enhanced interrogation tactics, including waterboarding, a form of simulated drowning, were being denounced as torture by critics of the Bush administration.
And I guess I should also mention that this operation was a targeted assassination, something that these same progressive bloggers and journalists have always denounced when carried out by Israel against people just as guilty as Osama bin Laden. Since yesterday, that’s OK too.
Don’t get me wrong. I think OBL’s extermination was the right thing to do, and I’m glad Obama gave the order (instead of voting “present”). But it’s difficult to exaggerate the contempt I have for the situational ethics and hypocrisy of the left.
