My latest column for the American Spectator discusses President Obama’s performance on the economy and his powers of prognostication:
In February of 2009, President Obama went on the Today Show to discuss a variety of issues, including his plan to turn the economy around. When asked about the consequences of failure for his presidency, he replied with unusual frankness: ‘I will be held accountable … If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.’
Well, his three years are nearly up and he most assuredly does not “have this done.” Since that interview, unemployment has gone from 7.6 percent to 9.2 percent, and his “signature achievement” is big part of the problem:
During the first sixteen months of Obama’s presidency, the economy was creating jobs at a reasonably healthy rate … Almost immediately following passage of ObamaCare, however, monthly job creation flattened to less than 10 percent of that amount.
Will Obama’s prediction come true? Is he better at political prognostication than he is at being President? Let’s hope so. To read the rest of the column, click here.
