As a rule, I don’t watch debates moderated by MSM hacks. The questions are always rehashed DNC talking points, and they are often just plain dumb. A classic example was provided during last night’s GOP debate by Maria Bartiromo:
You have all said that you will repeal President Obama’s health care legislation. Down the line, 30 seconds, if you repeal Obamacare, what’s the answer?
After listening to several of his fellow Republicans gamely struggle to deal with such a huge issue in the ridiculously small amount of time alotted to them, Newt Gingrich pointed out the essential idiocy of the question:
I just want point out, my colleagues have done a terrific job of answering an absurd question. To say in 30 seconds …
Predictably, Bartiromo (who was obviously still miffed about being booed by the audience for hectering Cain on the phony harassment charges) tried to interrupt, but Gingrich wasn’t having any:
Let me finish, if I may. To say in 30 seconds what you would do with 18 percent of the economy, life and death for the American people … is the perfect case of why I’m going to challenge the president to seven Lincoln- Douglas style three-hour debates with a timekeeper and no moderator.
This “no moderator” comment produced jets of flame from Bartiromo’s nostrils: “Would you like to try to explain in simple speak to the American people what you would do after you repeal the president’s health care legislation?”
Gingrich went on to give a few highlights of his health reform views—-discussing the doctor-patient relationship, returning control of Medicaid to the states, etc.—-but his most important point had already been made. Watch:
His point about the Lincoln-Douglas format should be taken seriously, by the way. The practice of lining up GOP contenders like ducks in barrel to be shot by obvious Democrat partisans is utterly ridiculous.
